April’s meeting will be held on Monday the 15th, 7pm. In addition to the in-person option, a Zoom link will be available

April’s guest speaker will be Asa Christiana. He has been a Fine Woodworking editor for 24 years, 8 of which were spent as the Editor-In-Chief. In 2015 he moved to Oregon to pursue freelance opportunities and has written articles for various magazines including FWW and Fine Homebuilding. Asa is also the author of several books on woodworking. He has since returned to Fine Woodworking as their Editor-At-Large where he is responsible for among other things their Workshop Tips and their Tools and Materials departments. If you’ve read anything he’s written or seen any videos he’s done, you’ll recognize that Asa has a gift for making the craft approachable to everyone. His topic will be “Tips From a Career at Fine Woodworking”. Join us for what promises to be an interesting evening with something for everyone. Although Asa will be presenting via Zoom, our meetings are always enjoyed better in person. However you choose to attend, we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday April 15th.

At June’s meeting we reinstated our “Show and Tell” segment. If you are in process of making something that you’d like to share with the members, bring it to the meeting and we’ll pick a couple of items for a quick sharing before we turn it over to our guest speaker.

If you’ve just discovered the North Jersey Woodworkers Association and wish to join, there are instruction on how to do so on the website. Simply look under the “Becoming a Member” section on the About NJWA page. The processes is simple and can be completed either electronically or via regular USPS mail. If you’re interested in attending a meeting to see if it’s for you, feel free to show up in person. Date, time and location are on the site. If you’d prefer to try us out via Zoom, send a note to the email address at the top of the main page. Make sure to do so several days in advance of the meeting.

We have completed our effort to make witness tree items for the Hermitage Museum. If you have still have items for the museum, you can contact them directly, we’re sure they’d like to have additional items to sell. BTW, the witness tree is a 250+ year old sugar maple that “witnessed” Revolutionary War skirmishes on the museum’s property as well as the encampment of such notables as George Washington, Aaron Burr, and Alexander Hamilton. That tree came down in a 2020 storm and we are collaborating with the Hermitage Museum to build items to be offered for sale in the museum’s gift shop using lumber from this tree.
